It               is               inevitable               that               Sen.

Joe               Biden               and               Gov.

Sarah               Palin,               the               vice               presidential               candidates               at               the               debate               in               St.

Louis               on               Thursday,               October               2,               will               be               asked               about               (1)               the               economy               (2)               the               war               in               Iraq               and               (3)               our               foreign               affairs               relationships,               in               general,               since               they               are               in               such               disarray.

On               the               subject               of               the               economy,               let's               hope               that               Sarah               Palin               doesn't               respond               as               she               did               when               asked               if               she               was               up               to               the               challenge               of               managing               the               budget               of               Wasilla,               Alaska,               as               Mayor,               back               in               1996.

Back               then,               according               to               the               September               28th               Chicago               Tribune,               she               said,               "It's               not               rocket               science.

It's               $6               million               dollars               and               53               employees."
               I               can               hear               her               now:               "It's               not               rocket               science.

It's               only               $3.1               trillion               dollars               and               gazillion               employees.

Oh.

And               the               Army,               Navy,               Air               Force               and               Marine               Corps.

But               it's               really               about               Freddie               Mac               and               Fannie               Mae               and               getting               jobs               back               in               the               country."
               There               will               be               no               specifics               of               how               any               of               this               might               be               achieved,               which               has               seemed               characteristic               of               the               entire               Republican               platform               this               season.

"Saturday               Night               Live"               will               have               material               for               months.

Palin's               best               response               might               be               to               echo               her               running               mate,               John               McCain,               who               openly               admitted,               "I               don't               know               much               about               the               economy."
               My               biggest               fear               regarding               the               Iraq               War               is               that               Joe               Biden---who               really               does               have               extensive               knowledge               of               the               foreign               affairs               situation               after               something               like               27               years               on               the               job---will               become               typically               longwinded               in               responding,               leaving               an               opening               for               Palin               to               use               the               response               she               gave               during               her               ABC               interview               with               Charles               Gibson,               "But               it's               about               change,               Charlie."               (This               response               will               have               nothing               at               all               to               do               with               the               question               asked,               but               get               used               to               it,               audience.)               She               may               select               some               other               non               sequitur               with               which               to               answer.

(Hopefully,               she               will               have               learned               how               to               pronounce               the               name               of               the               President               of               Iran,               which               will               be               more               than               can               be               said               for               her               running               mate.)
               On               foreign               affairs,               in               general,               Sarah               Palin,               who               only               got               a               passport               last               year,               can               be               expected               to               know               literally               nothing.

She               might               try               that               familiar               refrain,               "Russia               is               our               next-door               neighbor"               again,               but               it's               so               patently               ridiculous               that               I'll               go               out               on               a               limb               and               make               a               prediction               that               she               won't               want               to               set               herself               up               as               the               butt               of               more               "Saturday               Night               Live"               Tina               Fey               impressions,               but,               instead,               will               resort               to               new               material               crafted               for               her               by               Republican               strategists.
               Whatever               Palin               says               will               involve               wrapping               herself               in               the               flag,               talking               about               John               McCain's               war               service               and               insisting               that               that               makes               him               the               most               qualified               man               for               the               presidency,               and               mentioning               her               deep               faith               and               God               at               least               every               10               minutes.

This               is               the               only               effective               arrow               in               the               Republican               quiver:               McCain's               legitimate               record               as               one               (of               many)               heroic               POWs.

There               is               a               slim               chance               that               Palin               will               pull               a               Hillary               and               claim               some               sort               of               experience               that               she               really               didn't               have,               as               when               Hillary               talked               about               landing               in               an               aircraft               in               Afghanistan               while               under               fire.

This               will               need               to               be               fact-checked               later,               so               she               will               get               away               with               claiming               something               outrageous               without               fear               of               contradiction,               unless               the               moderator               is               on               top               of               things,               as               I               hope               he/she               will               be.
               Whatever               Palin               says               on               any               topic               will               sound               like               a               Minnesota               native               ("Yah,               Sure,               You               betcha'),               frequently               cite               God               and               the               heroic               war               service               of               John               McCain               and               will               have               almost               nothing               to               do               with               the               real               problems               facing               the               country.

Her               responses               will               offer               no               specifics               of               how               the               Republicans,               under               her               leadership               and               that               of               ex-POW               John               McCain,               would               get               us               out               of               the               mess               the               last               8               years               have               gotten               us               in               to.

There               will               also               be               lots               of               claims               that               the               Democrats               are               going               to               tax               everyone,               while               the               Republicans               are               going               to               give               you               bundles               of               cash               and               8               more               years               of               the               kind               of               prosperity               we've               all               experienced               under               George               W.

Bush.

[If               you               can               stand               that,               economically,               you're               a               stronger---and               richer---               citizen               than               I               am.]
               At               some               point,               if               Biden               seems               to               be               scoring               points               with               a               good               slogan               or               retort,               you               can               assume               that               the               Republican               opponent               will               try               to               co-opt               it               to               use               it               as               her               own,               the               "change"               mantra               being               a               case               in               point.
               I               predict               a               lot               of               animated               hand               gestures,               a               result               of               her               experience               as               a               sports               reporter               on               television               and               her               credentials               in               Journalism               from               the               University               of               Idaho,               which,               of               course,               is               the               foremost               U.S.

collegiate               authority               on               budget,               foreign               relations               and               other               assorted               issues.

And               if               you               don't               think               that               Idaho               is               much               of               a               school,               how               about               Matanuska-Susitna               College,               which               Palin               attended               in               the               fall               of               1985?
               Biden               will               smile               his               very               large               shark-like               smile               a               lot               and               will               sound               intense,               as               he               always               does.

Joe               knows               a               lot               and               he               wants               you               to               know               he               knows               a               lot.

He               will               need               to               try               not               to               over               talk.

He               will               have               to               be               careful               not               to               appear               condescending               towards               his               know-nothing               opponent,               despite               the               overpowering               temptation               to               make               mincemeat               out               of               her.
               Biden               may               have               to               spell               some               words               for               Palin               or               explain               what               "the               Bush               doctrine"               is,               since               Palin               did               not               know               of               it               during               a               recent               interview.

Perhaps               Biden               could               make               up               a               phonetic               pronunciation               list               of               world               leaders,               in               advance,               and               bring               a               pointer.

Palin               had               never               met               a               national               leader               until               last               week,               while               Biden               faced               down               Slobodan               Milosivec               in               his               heyday               and               likes               to               mention               how               he               called               him               a               "war               criminal"               to               his               face.
               Palin               will               have               to               try               very               hard               not               to               nod               off               during               the               lengthy               monologues               that               Biden               will               be               tempted               to               make,               especially               since               she               will               not               know               most               of               the               names               he               will               mention.

She'll               have               that               glazed-over               look               of               a               deer               caught               in               the               headlights,               or               the               bored               look               of               undergraduates               who               sit               in               the               back               of               the               room               during               a               calculus               lecture.
               After               the               debate               is               over               and               Palin               has               been               revealed               as               the               airhead               she               has               seemed               in               her               few               (2               or               3)               public               outings               (versus               84               for               Biden),               the               Republicans               will               claim               that               Senator               Joseph               Biden               was               somehow               mean               to               his               female               opponent,               and               will               play               "the               gender               card."
               I               would               love               to               hear               the               line,               "I               knew               Hillary               Clinton,               and               you,               Madam,               are               no               Hillary               Clinton,"               but               I               don't               think               that               is               going               to               happen.

However,               I               can               hardly               wait               to               hear               the               rest               of               the               debate.

I               just               hope               that               the               gaffe               group               gets               Joe's               tongue               under               control               and               his               foot               firmly               out               of               his               mouth               and               makes               sure               that               he               gives               appropriate               credit               for               every               quote               he               may               use.
               As               for               Palin,               I               hope               she               giggles               her               way               into               America's               heart               and               is               cast               in               the               remake               of               "Gidget."               If               that               doesn't               work               out               for               her,               there's               always               the               Frances               McDormand               role               in               a               sequel               to               "Fargo."
               One               thing               is               for               sure:               This               one's               gonna               be               good.

    About 'national louis university transcripts'|Is there a "Virulent Left-Wing" Bias in Education








    Peer               pressure               can               persuade               a               person               to               do               all               kinds               of               things,               from               smoking               a               cigarette               to               getting               an               eyebrow               piercing,               to               even               purchasing               a               Justin               Bieber               album.

    But               if               you               think               that               peer               pressure               affects               only               tweens               obsessed               with               movies               about               vampire               romance,               think               again.

    Penn               State               University               president               Rod               Erickson's               decision               to               tear               down               the               statue               of               legendary               football               coach               Joe               Paterno               proves               that               even               heads               of               universities               are               capable               of               behaving               like               gullible               teenagers.

    The               famous               bronze               statue               of               Paterno,               long               a               fixture               of               the               Beaver               Stadium               landscape,               was               torn               down               earlier               this               morning,               in               an               attempt               to               bring               closure               to               the               sex               scandal               involving               Jerry               Sandusky.

    In               a               statement               released               earlier               this               morning,               Erickson               stated:               "I               believe               that,               were               it               to               remain,               the               statue               will               be               a               recurring               wound               to               the               multitude               of               individuals               across               the               nation               and               beyond               who               have               been               the               victims               of               child               abuse."
                   Give               me               a               break.
                   If               Erickson               truly               felt               that               way,               the               statue               would               have               been               torn               down               before               the               mortician               put               the               last               coat               of               pancake               makeup               on               JoePa's               cheeks.

    The               reason               why               the               Paterno               statue               was               taken               down               on               July               22,               2012,               many               months               after               the               child               abuse               allegations               made               national               headlines,               was               because               of               the               fallout               from               the               Freeh               Report,               the               so-called               "independent"               investigative               report               by               former               FBI               Director               Louis               Freeh               which               seems               to               imply               that               Paterno               was               part               of               a               major               cover-up.

    But               what               did               you               expect               to               find               in               a               so-called               "independent"               report               that               was               commissioned               by               Penn               State's               Board               of               Trustees?

    Did               you               actually               expect               Free               to               bite               the               hands               that               feed               him?
                   While               the               Freeh               Report               is               being               cited               as               conclusive               evidence               of               Paterno's               wrongdoing,               even               the               most               ardent               JoePa               haters               are               left               grasping               at               straws               trying               to               find               something               in               the               267-page               report               that               specifically               states               that               the               coach               intentionally               tried               to               sweep               Sandusky's               dirt               under               the               proverbial               rug.

    For               instance,               Johnette               Howard               of               ESPN.com               tried               her               best               to               make               Paterno               look               like               an               unconscionable               monster               (she               even               likened               the               coach               to               O.J.

    Simpson),               but               came               across               looking               like               an               armchair               journalist               instead.

    In               her               vitriol-drenched               tirade               against               the               Paterno               family               for               their               decision               to               finance               their               own               review               of               Freeh's               findings,               Howard               perused               the               267-page               report               and               the               best               "evidence"               she               could               come               up               with               was               an               email               from               athletic               director               Tim               Curley               to               vice               president               Gary               Schultz               and               president               Graham               Spanier               on               May               5,               1998,               which               simply               reads:               "I               have               touched               base               with               the               coach               [Paterno].

    Keep               us               posted.

    Thanks."
                   That's               just               one               example,               of               course.

    Read               any               article               about               the               Freeh               Report,               and               you'll               be               hard               pressed               to               come               across               any               evidence               which               conclusively               implicates               Paterno's               role               in               a               Mafiosa-like               caper.

    The               fact               of               the               matter               is               that               the               Freeh               Report               is               the               end               result               of               an               investigation               which               pored               over               3               million               emails               and               documents               and               examined               400               interviews,               and               after               all               of               that               investigation,               Freeh               came               to               same               conclusion               that               Paterno               himself               did-               he               should               have               done               more.

    The               report               concludes               that               Paterno               was               aware               of               the               allegations               as               early               as               1998,               and               that               he               brought               the               matter               to               the               attention               of               his               superiors,               who               sat               on               it               the               same               way               a               mother               hen               sits               on               an               egg.

    In               other               words,               the               report               corroborates               what               Joe               Paterno               had               been               saying               all               along.
                   However,               the               report's               language               does               little               to               preserve               the               late               coach's               reputation.

    The               report               implied               that               Paterno               intervened               in               a               decision               to               report               the               2001               shower               incident               witnessed               by               former               graduate               assistant               Mike               McQueary.

    Since               we               cannot               speak               for               Paterno,               and               since               he               obviously               can               no               longer               speak               for               himself,               we               have               to               assume               that               Paterno               probably               did               not               believe               McQueary,               or               possibly               believed               that               the               graduate               assistant               didn't               present               a               strong               enough               case.

    This               is               a               definite               possibility,               since               that               alleged               "victim"               has               yet               to               come               forward               and               has               yet               to               be               identified,               despite               exhaustive               searches               by               authorities.

    If               you               have               a               hard               time               believing               that,               do               yourself               a               favor               and               read               the               transcripts               of               the               Sandusky               trial.
                   Ultimately,               university               president               Erickson               bowed               to               peer               pressure,               not               because               of               any               overwhelming               concern               for               victims               of               child               abuse,               but               to               appease               the               misguided               and               ill-informed               masses.

    Those               of               you               who               applaud               the               removal               of               the               Paterno               statue               shouldn't               feel               any               sense               of               achievement.

    Not               until               you               also               demand               the               removal               of               Andrew               Jackson's               statue               in               New               Orleans.

    After               all,               he               was               the               one               responsible               for               the               Trail               of               Tears,               which               resulted               in               the               deaths               of               over               4,000               Native               Americans.

    And               while               you're               at               it,               you               better               champion               the               removal               of               every               statue               of               the               12               U.S.

    Presidents               who               owned               slaves.

    And               let's               not               stop               there,               because               all               over               America               you               can               find               bronze               likenesses               of               men               who               "could               have               done               more"               but               didn't,               and               yet               these               statues               continue               to               stand.

    Nursing               is               a               career               that               can               touch               not               only               the               patient's               life               but               your               own.

    Only               a               few               schools               across               the               country               specialize               in               nursing               education.

    Some               feature               waiting               lists               to               accomodate               smaller               class               sizes               for               a               better               educational               experience.

    All               of               these               schools               will               require               various               prequisite               courses               be               taken               before               you               can               begin               the               degree               program.

    Keep               this               in               mind               when               getting               an               idea               of               what               your               tuition               costs               will               be.

    Watts               School               of               Nursing               in               Durham,               North               Carolina               began               in               1895               as               Watts               Hospital.

    The               school               is               affiliated               with               Duke               University               Health               System.

    Programs               just               cover               nursing               and               the               school               carries               an               accreditation               from               the               National               League               for               Nursing               Accrediting               Commission.

    Prerequisite               courses               must               be               taken               at               any               college               before               enrollment.

    Each               year,               two               classes               receive               admission               to               the               Watts               program.

    On               the               job               training               occurs               at               Durham               Regional               Hospital               as               well               as               Duke               University               Hospital.

    Students               that               graduate               receive               a               diploma               from               Watts               in               nursing               and               an               Associate               of               Science               Degree               in               Health               diploma               from               Mount               Olive               College.
                   St.

    Luke's               School               of               Nursing               in               Bethlehem,               Pennsylvania               is               part               of               St.

    Luke's               Hospital               and               Health               Network.

    Open               in               1884,               the               school               was               only               the               fourth               in               the               country               to               be               started               by               a               hospital.

    Full               accreditation               came               in               1962               from               the               Nation               League               of               Nursing.

    There               are               only               60               to               90               students               that               receive               admission               for               each               class.

    Some               courses               such               as               Microbiology               are               required               prior               to               beginning               the               nursing               program.

    Degrees               in               nursing               are               available               and               the               Bachelor               of               Science               degree               is               on               hand               for               those               students               wishing               to               continue               their               education.
                   The               Bridgeport               Hospital               School               of               Nursing               in               Bridgeport,               Connecticut               has               been               in               operation               since               1884.

    At               the               time,               this               school               was               one               of               only               15               nursing               schools               in               the               United               States.

    National               League               of               Nursing               gave               the               school               full               accreditation               in               1952.

    There               is               a               body               of               250               students               with               125               new               student               admitted               each               year.

    Diploma               In               Nursing,               Surgical               Technology               and               Sterile               Processing               Technician               are               the               three               program               choices               for               students.

    It               takes               two               years               to               finish               the               Diploma               in               Nursing               program               while               Surgical               Technology               takes               ten               months               and               Sterile               Processing               Technician               runs               between               three               weeks               to               five               weeks               in               length.
                   Lutheran               School               of               Nursing               is               affiliated               with               St.

    Alexius               Hospital.

    Both               are               located               in               St.

    Louis,               Missouri.

    The               National               League               for               Nursing               Accrediting               Commission               as               well               as               the               Missouri               State               Board               of               Nursing               provide               the               school's               accreditation.

    Students               must               complete               four               courses,               English               Composition               I,               Introduction               to               Sociology,               Introduction               to               Psychology,               and               Anatomy               and               Physiology               I               before               admittance.

    The               Registered               Nurse               program               is               22               months               of               full               time               course               work.

    Students               in               this               program               get               about               16               hours               of               clinical               work               each               week               starting               in               their               fifth               week.

    There               is               also               a               program               for               Licensed               Practical               Nurses               to               become               Registered               Nurses               that               takes               15               months.
                   The               Los               Angeles               County               College               of               Nursing               and               Allied               Health               campus               is               at               Los               Angles               County               and               University               of               Southern               California               Medical               Center.

    It               began               in               1895.

    Students               get               clinical               experience               at               several               locations               such               as               the               Department               of               Health               Services               or               Olive               View-UCLA               Medical               Center.

    Approval               of               the               school               comes               from               the               California               Board               of               Registered               Nursing.

    An               Associate               in               Science               Degree               In               Nursing               is               available.

    The               program               to               obtain               the               degree               spans               two               years.
