About 'degree health education'|...people who have achieved university degrees find themselves unemployed or working...as experience. Labels: Economy, Education, Equality, Health, Human Relations








I               discovered,               as               a               Junior               in               High               School,               that               I               wanted               to               be               a               Physical               Education               teacher.

I               found               that,               I               had               a               strong               desire               for               fitness               and               sports.

I               was               also               influenced               by               my               Physical               Education               teacher,               too.

I               found               myself               talking               to               him               more               and               more,               about               the               requirements               and               what               school               I               should               attend.

During               my               Senior               year               in               high               school,               I               began               preparing               myself               for               a               career               in               education.

I               attended               Southern               Illinois               University               at               Edwardsville.

There,               I               was               able               to               enter               a               Physical               Education               program               called               a               broad-field               degree.

This               program               would               qualify               me               to               teach               grades               K               through               14.

It               also               would               let               me               teach               Health               Education,               Driver               Education,               Safety,               and               Recreation.

It               also               allowed               me               to               work               with               both               physically               and               mentally               challenged               students.
               Over               the               course               of               time,               from               graduation               to               the               present,               I               have               been               able               to               use               my               degree               in               various               areas.

Right               after               college,               I               briefly               went               to               work               for               a               program               called               SLARC.

(St.

Louis               Association               for               Retarded               Children).

In               that               situation,               I               worked               with               mentally               challenged               children               ,in               both               a               day               and               week               position.

From               there,               I               went               to               work               at               my               local               school               district.
               At               the               high               school,               I               taught               Physical               Education,               for               grades               9               through               12.

I               also               had               one               hour               each               day               with               the               Special               Education               children.

I               taught               at               this               school               for               33               years.

During               my               time               there,               I               taught               other               courses,               too.

I               taught               4               years               of               Health               Education               in               the               classroom,               Drivers               Education,               and               Physical               Education               with               Kindergarten               children               for               two               years.
               After               retiring,               I               was               approached               by               Blackburn               College               to               work               in               their               Education               department               as               a               Physical               Education               adjunct.

My               position               there,               at               the               present,               is               to               evaluate               student               teachers               in               the               field               of               Physical               Education.

I               not               only               evaluate,               but               i               work               one               on               one               with               them               through               their               teaching               experience.
               Since,               I               graduated               from               college,               I               have               also               served               in               other               capacities.

I               have               worked               with               the               Illinois               State               Board               of               Education               in               performing               what               is               known               as               Quality               Review.

Quality               Review               has               a               team               of               educators,               that               go               into               a               school               district               and               evaluate               their               programs.

This               allows               the               school               to               get               a               perspective               of               their               weaknesses               and               strengths               in               various               areas.

This               also               allowed               for               me               to               do               the               same               type               of               program               in               private               schools,               too.

I               recently               headed               a               team               of               individuals               that               did               a               parochial               school.

Recently,               I               even               sat               in               on               a               review               of               the               Blackburn               College               by               the               Illinois               Department               of               Education.
               During               these               years,               of               my               career,               I               have               also               coached               many               sports.

I               have               even               served               as               Athletic               Director               for               seventeen               of               these               years.
               Over               the               course               of               my               career,               I               can               see               how,               I               have               affected               the               education               of               many               individuals.

I               continue               to               do               so               and               will               do               so               as               long               as               I               can.

I               have               gotten               the               most               out               of               my               broad-field               degree               from               Southern               Illinois               University.
